    New Storm Siren Installed

Chandler has a new siren on the south side of town to warn residents of impending storms and weather emergencies. A crew from Vectren installed the new siren on Thursday, Oct. 8, near the intersection of Outer South State Street and Gardner Road. The new siren is the only storm siren placed south of Hwy. 62 in Chandler, and was deemed necessary to reach residents who may not have been able to hear one of the two sirens currently situated on the north side of town.

The project has been a few years in the making, and was initiated by former Chandler Town Council member George Irvin, who passed away in 2012. Irvin’s son, Kenny Irvin, took on the task after filling the vacancy on the board left by his father. Kenny Irvin said he was excited to see the project completed, and before the fall storm season.

Following the purchase of the siren late last year, Irvin told local news reporters, “Dad would be really proud. Real proud. It’s what he’s always wanted for the people of Chandler; he’s always tried to help people and this was his last one and with all the help that we received from everybody in the town, we finally go it.”
